I'm not completely sure what everyone would be interested in; so far I have a board for the initial cipher we were all working on but feel free to let me know of any more that seem extremely interesting and I'll add a board for it.
http://www.elonka.com/UnsolvedCodes.html
has a very good list of unsolved ciphers if you want to know what else is out there.
Enjoy!

Aaron,
So far, I'm still extremely challenged by the Dora. I can't help but agree with others that it is musically related, but also am somewhat surprised that he would have made such a difficult cipher for a novice to try and figure out. So far, I have tried simple musical note substitution, high frequency letter substitution, and simple conversion through numbers to letters, but so far nothing. The Inet seems limited in it's available information about Elgar, so I'm going to try and find some more information about him that may help in the cipher. I'll let you know what I find. As far as other ciphers, I think the Beale looks interesting.

I read over the Beale papers before, though I do wonder as to its validity. I'll post it as it does seem curious, though of course I'll add the warning that it might not be solvable (though that usually encourages people more than it discourages them
).

I must confess that my lack of musical acumen leaves me at a disadvantage on the Dorabella Cipher. Having made some progress on the Beale before I found it had been solved, I've decided that the Kryptos sounds really intriguing and complex. Has anyone made any more progress on the Dorabella? I'm going to keep working on it while I start to delve into the Kryptos.

One interesting, although far from ancient, cipher is the Zodiac killer's cipher. Part of it was solved by a Donald Harden, a school teacher, after various law enforcement agencies had supposedly given up. Quite a lot of information is available on the web at
http://www.zodiackiller.com/
as well as other sites, books, etc. It might be interesting to pick one particular letter sent by Zodiac and put our collective minds to the solution.
Copies of the letters can be found at

Intriguing, I had been considering watching the movie to get an idea of the whole affair.

I've been fascinated by it, but, never devoted any time to it. It isn't ancient, though, so maybe a different cipher would be better.

I don't really mind whether it's ancient or not, the main reason for this SIG is to crack ciphers in which you can't contact the originator of the code.
In most cases that would mean the origiinator is long dead, but in this case if the criminal were to "help" he would be caught.

The "unsolved codes" link that kicks off this post is great! The Dorabella cipher is intriguing - any progress on cracking this?

I made the board for you, since that requires mod/admin privileges. Let me know if you have trouble creating a new topic in there.

Aaron - can you make a board in the Ancient Texts for the Voynich Manuscript please?
and did you notice - a record number (over 18,000) of page views last month - strangely coinciding with the porn spammer!!

Done!
And yeah, methinks they were looking for a security leak. I always keep this forum up to date so there should be as few spammers as possible.

I think Tony Baloney's Van Langren cipher is a better project than the Zodiac. I am changing over to that project.
